What to Watch This Weekend (January 17-19)

Finales and premieres abound.

What to Watch This Weekend (January 17-19) - IGN Image

Entertainment has hit critical mass over the last decade, with more shows and movies being produced and released than ever before. It’s impossible to keep up with everything hitting the digital space, whether it be Premium Video on Demand (PVOD) or a traditional streaming network. With that in mind, we figured it was well past time for us to whip up a little something to help you keep up (and catch up) with all there is to watch in the big, wide world of digital viewing. And thus, the Streaming Rewind was born!

We’ll update this list at the end of each week so you can check out what you may have missed, and what’s coming up on the weekend. We’ll keep it a mix of popular releases and noteworthy lesser-known titles to help you find what’s worth taking the risk on as well as dive into a few things that we loved and why we loved ‘em, or just break down a show or movie that left us with some opinions. Sometimes, we’ll even have guest entries from other members of the IGN staff. If you’re not interested in all that and just want to see a bulleted list of what’s out there, pop on down to the New and Noteworthy and ICYMI sections.

That’s a Wrap on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

Now, Skeleton Crew was not for me — I found myself extremely frustrated by the first two episodes — but I seem to be the lone crone on that one. Though the finale was relatively straight-forward and doesn’t connect much to the universe at large, our Staff Writer Jesse Schedeen still gave a great look at what the ending means for everyone’s new favorite space misfits and Star Wars as a whole.

Our National Nightmare Has Ended: Severance Is Back

You know that Rose Dawson meme that says “it’s been 84 years”? That’s what I think of when Severance is concerned. There’s a considerable conversation to be had when your show becomes remembered for how absurdly long the gap between seasons is rather than how utterly remarkable its first outing was, but that’s a conversation for another day. For now, let’s all just rejoice in the fact that Severance has finally returned and that we have a wonderfully distracting mystery.

Silo Delivers an Explosive Season 2 Finale

Take there being two Apple TV+ shows on this list as your general reminder that the streamer outpaces every single competitor when it comes to quality/quantity ratio. In an earlier version of Streaming Rewind, I broke down all of the shows you should check out first during the window that the service was free (to remind us that Severance was coming back, of course). We also have a list of the best shows overall on the platform. But, for now, I’m just going to tell you to drop what you’re doing and catch up on Silo. Its Season 2 finale hit this week and it’s a big one, featuring major reveals alongside one hell of a cliffhanger, and that’s not always an easy balance to strike!
