Midnight Black PS5 Accessories Are Up for Preorder

You want it darker.

Gaming is mostly about enjoying digital interactive entertainment, but the look of the tech plays into it as well. Sony is gearing up to release a series of sleek Midnight Black versions of various PS5 accessories, including PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge controller, and more. The Midnight Black collection is up for preorder at all the usual retailers, and will release on February 20. Details and links below.

PlayStation Portal is a handy device for anyone who doesn’t always have access to the TV their PS5 is plugged into. It lets you play your games remotely from other rooms (or anywhere in the world with a strong Wi-Fi connection). And thanks to an update in November, it also now lets you stream games directly from the PlayStation Now cloud service, no download required. That’s a serious game changer, and this new dark color scheme looks mighty fine.

The standard DualSense is a terrific controller, thanks especially to its adaptive trigger resistance and intricate haptics. What makes the Edge a “pro” controller, though, are its textured grips, programmable back buttons, adjustable analog sticks, and customizable profiles. It adds up to one of the best controllers ever released. See our 9/10 DualSense Edge controller review for more info on that one.

Sony put a lot of work into making this headset (and the earbuds below) sound excellent. The headset features Planar Magnetic drivers that enhance the low end of the audio spectrum, and they use PlayStation Link technology to offer a lossless, ultra low-latency connection to the PS5. They also have Bluetooth, so you can use them to listen to other devices as well.

Pretty much all of the same sound technology in the Elite Wireless Headset above is also present in these tiny earbuds. So if you’re more of an earbud person than a headset person, grab the Pulse Explore earbuds. They offer great sound whether you’re playing PS5 games or listening to a podcast on your phone.

Those aren't the first midnight black PS5 accessories in existence. Sony has already released two accessories in the inky color scheme. Right now, you can pick up the midnight black PS5 console covers (available at PS Direct) and the standard DualSense wireless controller (available at Amazon). Any of the new ones you buy will match those, so grab one or both if you want to prep for the new accessories coming out on February 20.
